Beginning in January of 2015, ACF commissioned Jessica Byrd Stearns to begin a collaborative Project between ArtsInStark, Alliance for Children and Families, Stearns’ Violin Shop of Hartville, Canton City Schools, Alliance City Schools, The University of Mount Union, Alliance Emergency Residence, Transitional Housing, and the Mastroianni Family Center to provide an enrichment program for children living at any of the homeless programs called “Math in Music”. These children were intermixed with typically developing peers in the community to combine an educational program for math concepts through the use of Suzuki violin instruction, educational tutoring, and incorporating the Character Counts Pillars for effective psycho-social integration of all participants.
